Zebula Lodge breakfast that did not work out.
A few of the pilots at Rhino Park decided it would be fun to do a Breakfast run to Zebula lodge. Zebula lodge is a nice pilot friendly lodge about 82 miles from Rhino Park towards the North-West. They have a great 1.4km tarred runway and they come and fetch you at the runway and take you to the lodge.
I have been to Zebula before but the others not, the last time I went there it was a hot summers day, well, this time the weather was a bit different.
Due to bad weather we did not quite get to Zebula, but we still
had fun not getting there ! The flight was interesting as we tried to get around
the bad weather, the group split into two, one lot trying to get round north of
the storm and the rest of us tried passing the storm on the southern side. The
southern group got closer to the target but in the end we still needed to turn
back and racing the bad weather back.
We ended up turning back for breakfast at Kittyhawk, only about 4 miles from
Rhino Park, breakfast at Kittyhawk was great anyway !
Below are a few photos from the attempt.

Did not look to promising turning North-West after take-off.

Zebula hiding behind a curtain of rain, at this stage we were about 20 miles
from Zebula but we realized that even going all the way around would not get us
to our planned destination, then it started raining where we were as well....

Not looking good, rain on the windscreen and dark clouds ahead, time to admit
defeat.

We managed to get close to Zebula but could not quite get there, turning back we
had some fun and managed to take a few air to air photos. The plane in the photo
is Dave Naude's Jabiru SP470.

Closer home it was not raining but we still had dark broody clouds.
Lets hope for better weather next time !
