Teenie 2 Construction project
Over the last few years I have had the privilege to look at a few Teenie 2 planes, I always thought that it looked like a great little plane for everyday fun flying. I have asked around but have not come across a decent deal.
That was till fate stepped in, there I was, working on the Savannah, when my friend Louwtjie mentioned that a friend who just completed his RV8 had a Teenie project that was surplus. He told Louwtjie that he could have it. Louwtjie was still thinking about it, well, it did not take me long to decide. I made a deal with Louwtjie, he supplies the airframe, I supply an engine and we complete the plane as joint owners.
So, now I am a 50% owner in a Teenie 2, all we need to do is complete it! Easier said than done! We will see how long it takes, we are both busy with other projects at the moment, Louwtjie is finishing his Pietenpol and I need to complete the Savannah and I still have a 90% completed Zodiac 601HD that needs my attention as well. I think we will do a bit of work now and then when we get the chance, the plane will live in my hangar for now at Rhino Park. We will start by looking around for a few bits and pieces, we need instruments, a seat and canopy.
Below are a few photos taken during the construction of the plane up to the stage it is now.

Wing construction

Wing with a few fuselage pieces

Rear fuselage on the workbench

Taking shape!

Starting to look like a plane!

Making sure everything is lined up

Firewall mounted

All the bits put together, almost a plane.

No, this is not our plane! A few photos to show the colors we want to paint the plane, also the shape of the canopy we want to install

She looks quite aggressive from this angle!

This plane has a VW engine, we are planning on installing a Jabiru 2200A engine

She looks a bit like a Pilatus, that is the reason for the paint job, those are the colors of our local airforce trainers!
Below are a few photos of the trip taking the Teenie to it's new home. The plane is so small it fitted on the trailer without any problems.

Packed out on the grass ready to load, full of dust from standing for a long time.

Loaded and ready for the 70km trip

Safely home at Rhino Park, time to unpack.
We now need to clean the plane and make a list of things still to be done and items we need to acquire. The plane is pretty complete, most of the construction is done, just a few rivets needed here and there. The canopy frame must still be complete so that the nice sliding bubble canopy can be mounted. We also need to build the fuel tank. One of the first things we will do would be to mount the landing gear so that the plane can stand on its own wheels and not sit flat on the ground.
As progress is made I will update this page.
